If you were formerly incarcerated, this does not limit you career wise (depending on your conviction). However, many employers are more willing to employ ex-offenders in a role that is not customer-based, so you may want to consider something like construction. Check for employer inclusivity- many employers are willing to work with you; especially if you are willing to go through training.
Be honest about your conviction. Talk about things you learned while in prison. Highlight examples of adaptability.
It's better for an employer to learn about your record from you, not during a background check.
