Nutrition Assistance

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, works to provide benefits to help the food budget of families in need so that they can provide healthy food. SNAP's goal is to help people be fed and move towards self-sufficiency.

You are eligible for SNAP even if you don't have a mailing address or live in a shelter. To apply, you need proof of identity, which could be a photo ID, work/school badge, birth certificate, or pay stub. You also are required to register/participate in employment or workfare programs and not voluntarily quit a job while participating in SNAP.

You also don't have to use SNAP benefits exclusively at grocery stores; you can also use them at places like soup kitchens.
